During the six months here, I worked closely together with the team to make sure we have a carefully curated and filled up program with artists. I had multiple roles within the store which brought about a nice variety of activities. Whenever we post or participate on social networking websites, we deliberately share information about ourselves, we contribute to our own active digital footprints. This information can be tracked and used by others. The majority of the movies are written out of the male perspective or as they call it ‘the male gaze’. The female characters shown are almost as outdated today, as they were 50 years ago. Together with four other students I studied women in movies by diving into storylines, movie scripts, and appearances. connections between people through a collaborative radio show‭. ‬Samen Radio‭ ‬is a method made as a tool for connection‭.‬ ‬The show is open to anyone who loves party music and is willing to share it with others‭. ‬Everyone takes part as an equal‭ ‬curator‭, ‬contributing their personal music selections and stories to the show‭. ‬During the recording sessions‭, ‬I take the role of a host‭, ‬guiding the co-curators and creating a welcoming and comfortable environment for them‭.‬ Through my research‭, ‬I identified a pressing social shift in Rotterdam‭: ‬the disappearance of independent cultural spaces‭, ‬driven by commercial development‭, ‬gentrification‭, ‬and changing policies‭. ‬In addition‭, ‬party culture is increasingly experienced through screens and digital platforms rather than in physical spaces‭. ‬The method seeks to rebuild a sense of community‭, ‬directly engaging with these issues by creating spaces for people who long for real-life connection‭.‬ The ethos of the Samen Radio:&nbsp; At Samen Radio we take agency of how we consume music‭, ‬which is together and connected‭. ‬No one is a guest in the show‭, ‬we’re all equal curators‭. ‬We gather in a room with Intern. Being an avid listener of community radio’s and designer working for and with musicians and DJ’s, this was a good opportunity for me. I learned the ins and outs of being a programmer within a station fully built and supported by their community of artists, DJ’s and radio nerds. During the six months here, I worked closely together with the team for 3 days a week to make sure we have a carefully curated and filled up program with artists. I connected with DJ’s, curated for our daily program, handled communication, organised our archive and scheduling systems, and brainstormed for event programs. Besides this, I learned how a passionate community is built up and taken care of.&nbsp; I unfortunately have to say goodbye to working at the office soon, but I’ll stick around for my radio show there. I’m very grateful for the experience I’ve built up there because I can use it for a program concept I’ve been working on for Sonoor, the listening bar I work for. The idea is still quite new but it will be a monthly Wednesday program giving smaller artists a platform to experiment, creating a lower threshold in the industry to perform in a social setting and to record their work while playing on a good sound system. post their thoughts in a text format on a shared thread. All the posts have an ending time of being ‘readable’. As the posts get shared more and more, the post gets more and more distorted. The ‘Download Pdf” gives the users a chance to save the content and print it before it disappears. The pdf (post catalogue) provides the texts shared by the user along with more information and context.The intention of creating the print function is to make the interaction with the screen shorter and the interaction with paper and other people longer, adding back interaction with physical material and other humans. The pdf can easily be printed on each colour of paper, as it has only black contents. The digital deterioration that happens on the platform makes our usage of the media visible, something that is currently not happening in other social media platforms. Whenever we post or participate on social networking websites, we deliberately share information about ourselves, we contribute to our own active digital footprints. This information can be tracked and used by others. Most of us aren’t aware of that because it is not visible. For example, each time we share a post from someone else, we contribute to our digital footprint. This is why, with designing Blight as an alternate social platform, I wanted whatever is ‘used’ by sharing to be affected, distorted, deteriorated visually for everybody to see. Especially during this time, it made me realize of how much worth the social interaction of meeting new people is. I didn’t know I needed it until I didn’t have it anymore. Seeing Martijn Mulder’s result of his research about Rotterdam nightlife during covid (on Operator Radio) made this fact even more real to me, what people missed the most was indeed meeting new people. The night is a perfect time to meet new people. Boundaries fall away and people become more open and out going. Going out to party is when I make the most new, special, or unusual connections. For me personally, I wouldn’t want to spend two weeks without going out into the nightlife. Meeting new people increases a sense of belonging, self-confidence and self-worth.I asked my friends to share their meeting stories with me, I included 6 short stories in this little zine. I liked all of the stories very much and my friends were very happy to send me their experiences and talk even more about it. It was a great experience. Connecting with others is essential for our happiness, for this reason I wanted to make a zine to focus on this crucial human interaction of meeting a new person, making it tangible. I also liked seeing where these interactions took place (at what kind of parties). It is a good conversation starter, and the shortness of the stories makes it open for interpretation. The majority of the movies are written out of the male perspective or as they call it ‘the male gaze’. The female characters shown are almost as outdated today, as they were 50 years ago. Together with four other students I studied women in movies by diving into storylines, movie scripts, and appearances. At the end we made a publication to express our urgency. The publication consists of 3 main chapters explaining the stereotypes we found after our research; ‘The Mother’, ‘The Makeover’ and ‘The Manic Pixie Dream Girl’. We provided images from the picked scenes and script lines accompanying it. I decided to use red paper to make it look like old script paper, as back in the day scripts would be printed on red paper in order to make it harder to copy them.The entertainment business prioritizes the sexualization of women over a realistic image of women. The normalization of these depictions is harmful to the image we have of women in our society. There exists an unrealistic standard with a different attitude towards women as a result. The movie industry as we know it today cannot be ignored. How much influence these movies have on the audience is unsure, but we do know that repetition causes normalization. The image of women created in entertainment should be way more accurate to reality than it is now. There should be more space for women to step behind the camera as well as in front of it. Looking back at this project a year later, I see how urgent this topic was considering the attention the Barbie movie got after its release. ritual for a lot of people and putting on socks is a daily ritual for a lot of people. Let me explain further :)For this project I did an in dept research to ‘tea bags’, especially the usability they still have after usage. As I went on and on experimenting with the material and colour I extracted from it, I stumbled upon an idea that resulted in the concept ‘Soak’. Soak is a kit for colouring white socks as a reminder to reflect and pay attention to one’s daily goals &gt; engaging in a meditative moment while making and reminding oneself of their goals while wearing.There’s an instructional small booklet included to explain the colouring technique and how to read the socks (just like you would do with tarot cards). The ‘reading technique’ is inspired from a technique called ‘Tasseography’ (or tea leaf reading) which is a method of learning more about your destiny by reading the tea leaves at the bottom of your teacup as a form of guidance or meditation. The connections I found between my coincidentally chosen sample fabric ‘socks’ and my material ‘tea’ were very interesting to me so I had to create an interactive product with it.
