Music Programming at Operator Radio














Six months ago I started my internship at Operator Radio as a Programming Intern. Being an avid listener of community radio’s and designer working for and with musicians and DJ’s, this was a good opportunity for me. I learned the ins and outs of being a programmer within a station fully built and supported by their community of artists, DJ’s and radio nerds. During the six months here, I worked closely together with the team for 3 days a week to make sure we have a carefully curated and filled up program with artists. I connected with DJ’s, curated for our daily program, handled communication, organised our archive and scheduling systems, and brainstormed for event programs. Besides this, I learned how a passionate community is built up and taken care of. 

I unfortunately have to say goodbye to working at the office soon, but I’ll stick around for my radio show there. I’m very grateful for the experience I’ve built up there because I can use it for a program concept I’ve been working on for Sonoor, the listening bar I work for. The idea is still quite new but it will be a monthly Wednesday program giving smaller artists a platform to experiment, creating a lower threshold in the industry to perform in a social setting and to record their work while playing on a good sound system. More on that soon!
