radio show
music & community
collaborative method
At Samen Radio we take agency of how we consume music‭, ‬which is together and connected‭. ‬No one is a guest in the show‭, ‬we’re all equal curators‭. ‬We gather in a room with 3-5‭ ‬people‭, ‬taking a moment to listen to the music we brought and record our conversations‭. ‬While doing this we explore party music genres in a new context‭. ‬We share our picked tracks and merge our personal interests creating a one hour long sound piece‭. ‬It’s a collaborative method‭, ‬with a structure made to function as a tool for connection‭.‬

community building
event design
Interning at Limestone Books in Maastricht was a great experience for me, especially for learning about cultivating communities and designing events. I had multiple roles within the store which brought about a nice variety of activities. I did things like designing identities for events, bookbinding, archiving, working together with artists, brainstorming for event concepts, hosting the bookshop and overall a being dynamic and social person.

The digital deterioration that happens on the platform makes our usage of the media visible, something that is currently not happening in other social media platforms. Whenever we post or participate on social networking websites, we deliberately share information about ourselves, we contribute to our own active digital footprints. This information can be tracked and used by others. Most of us aren’t aware of that because it is not visible. This is why, with designing Blight as an alternate social platform, I wanted whatever is ‘used’ by sharing to be affected, distorted, deteriorated visually for everybody to see.

Wijn Rood poetry book

In ‘Wijn rood in mijn nachtmerrie ga ik dood’ I bundled 40 of my poems into a printed publication. While creating this bundle I thought about what it means to be a poet, and what kind of writing can be considered poetic. I found that what’s considered poetry is merely what the artist themselves decide is poetry.

Depictions of Women in Film

The way women are portrayed in film is very familiarized and the audience seems blind to the stereotypes. The majority of the movies are written out of the male perspective or as they call it ‘the male gaze’. The female characters shown are almost as outdated today, as they were 50 years ago. Together with four other students I studied women in movies by diving into storylines, movie scripts, and appearances. At the end we made a publication to express this urgency.

Soak

I did an in dept research to ‘tea bags’, especially the usability they still have after usage. As I went on and on experimenting with the material and colour I extracted from it, I stumbled upon an idea that resulted in the concept ‘Soak’. Soak is a kit for colouring white socks as a reminder to reflect and pay attention to one’s daily goals > engaging in a meditative moment while making and reminding oneself of their goals while wearing.

Blurry Vision

Working on Blurry Vision made me soon realise that I was going with a satirical approach. With this modern media research project, I questioned the inner workings of Google and their use of artificial intelligence. To be specific, I researched Google’s use of AI in Google Maps Street View. If in the end it was a critique on the Google’s inaccuracy, inefficiency, or monopolist position, I’m still not sure but I guess I don’t have to choose.
